From the Alumni Association President
Fall 2009

With the start of the new school year, we begin a new chapter with Dean Lloyd Semple.  But first I would like to take a moment to thank Dean Mark Gordon for his hard work and dedication to the law school.  On June 11, 2009, the Alumni Association honored Dean Gordon as an Honorary Alumnus of the Class of 2009.  Dean Gordon was a positive influence for the law school, and we look forward to working with our new Dean Lloyd Semple.

Hopefully most of you have had an opportunity to meet Dean Semple at one of his many “Meet and Greets” this summer.  If you have not, I recommend you give him a call and say hello.  Dean Semple, as well as the Law Alumni Association Board of Directors, is always looking for alums who are willing to help, support and/or give back to the law school.

New Board Members

I would like to publicly recognize our 3 new Board members for 2009-2010. They are: Judge Michael Beale, ’90, Midland County Circuit Court; Scott Lites, ’85, Plunkett & Cooney, PC; and our student representative, Erin Jacobs, ’10.  If you are interested in joining the Alumni Board of Directors, we look forward to hearing from you.  A nomination form can be found here.

The law school and Alumni Board use their best efforts to host events that will garner alumni support and interaction.  If you have any thoughts or ideas that could help the law school or Alumni Board raise awareness and increase participation, please give me a call, I would be happy to hear from you.  With that said, I would ask that you "save the date" for upcoming events: Alumni Reception at the State Bar Annual Meeting, September 17, 2009; Red Mass at Sts. Peter and Paul Jesuit Church, September 29, 2009; 7th Annual Alumni Weekend, October 9 and 10, 2009.  The Alumni Weekend includes a Pub Night at Goodnite Gracie in Royal Oak on Friday, October 9, 2009, followed by the 2nd Annual Race for Justice downtown and the Annual Reunion Reception at the Detroit Athletic Club where the Alumni Association will be honoring Larry Campbell (’69) of Dickinson Wright as the Alumnus of the Year.  We hope to see you at one or all of these events.
