The theme for this year’s auction was “Celebrating a Decade of Service to the Community” complete with live and silent auctions, cocktails, a strolling supper, desserts, and live entertainment.

Professor introduces students to full breadth of Con Law

“There’s not much coverage of it in college programs or grade school – so, they’re bright and capable and eager and launching into a field they’ve never really had a chance to explore before. It’s a lot of fun to go on this adventure with them and to be their guide as to parts of it. It’s always fun for me to see how far they go in such a short period of time.”

Olson, who teaches Constitutional Law and the First Amendment, finds his students bring a wide array of background and experiences to the classroom, and “an amazing cross-section” of socio-economic classes, ages, occupations, creeds, and cultures.

Hockey outing sponsored by UDM School of Law

The University of Detroit Mercy School of Law recently hosted its Annual Detroit Red Wings Outing as the Wings took on the Chicago Blackhawks. Prior to the game, attendees gathered for a luncheon at the Hockeytown Café before catching a shuttle to Joe Louis Arena to see the longtime rivals and members of the “Original Six” NHL teams face off.

NEW DOWNTOWN FACILITY FOR RENOWNED LEGAL AID CLINICS

University of Detroit Mercy School of Law finalized the purchase of a historic Detroit firehouse on February 1st, 2012, which after being fully renovated, will serve as the new home for its renowned clinical program.  The School plans to open the new facility in December 2012 in conjunction with two significant milestones:  the 100th anniversary of the School’s founding, and the 47th anniversary of its first Urban Law Clinic.

It seems that whatever international issue is raised today, China tends to step to the forefront.

"China is going to play a more assertive role in the international IP (intellectual property) regime," said Prof. Peter K. Yu. "If you are interested in international IP development, you want to ask questions about China."

The Law Review Symposium on the Future of Intellectual Property Law was hosted by the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law on March 9 at the Detroit Athletic Club. Four panels discussed the topics of The Future of Patent Law, The Future of Trademark Law, The Future of Copyright, and The Future of International Intellectual Property Law.

St. Louis law school joins downtown trend

NEW YORK, Feb 17 (Reuters) - Call it the downtown advantage. Saint Louis University School of Law has become the latest law school to announce plans to move, or expand, downtown.

The new location will offer law school students easier access to real-world professional experience, law school administrators say. The move from the main campus to a donated 11-story building will take place in time for the 2012-13 academic year.

Red Mass 2011

The School of Law hosted its 99th consecutive Red Mass in September. Red Mass is an occasion for judges, lawyers, and officials of all faiths to pray together for guidance at the beginning of the new judicial term and join in the Renewal of the Lawyer’s Oath of Commitment.
