Fees
Are SSP participants eligible for financial aid?
Program participants are ineligible for federal financial aid for the SSP tuition and other related expenses. No institutional aid is available for SSP participation.
What does the $500 fee include?
The $500 (U.S.) nonrefundable fee is for Program participation only. Books, housing, meals and other related expenses are not included and are the sole responsibility of the student. Campus Parking is an additional $30 expense.
How can participants pay for the program?
- UDM requests that participants pay for the program via check or money order in U.S. funds.
- Payments should be made payable to University of Detroit Mercy School of Law.
- Those interested in participation should refer to their offer letter for deadline information.
Evaluation
How soon after the Program ends will participants be notified of admissions decisions?
Generally, the SSP faculty notifies the Admissions Office approximately two to three weeks after the Program ends whether participants have passed the program. However, depending on the number of participants, this time frame may vary.
How many SSP participants pass and are admitted UDM's fall first-year class?
Evaluation is on a pass/fail basis. Therefore, UDM does not limit the number of SSP participants who may be admitted to its fall first-year class. The Admissions Office reserves the right to select the division in which successful SSP participants will matriculate in their first year.
SSP Courses
Do participants receive graduation credits for the SSP?
The American Bar Association (ABA) does not allow UDM to offer SSP courses for credit toward graduation.
Which classes do participants take?
Participants must take two courses: Criminal Law and Legal Writing.
Orientation
Is Orientation mandatory?
All participants must attend Orientation Monday, May 18, 2009 at the School of Law. Under no circumstances will the orientation requirement be waived. Orientation will promply begin at 6:00 p.m. and last approximately two hours.
Housing & Parking
Where do SSP participants live during the summer?
UDM School of Law does not have a residence hall or similar accommodations. SSP students may live anywhere, but as a service to participants, the School provides listings on a web page dedicated to SSP participants. Participants may access this page via the UDM School of Law's website. Participants are encouraged to check the SSP page frequently for up-to-date program news.
Where do SSP participants park for the summer?
SSP participants have the option to purchase a summer campus parking permit for an additional $30 fee. The summer parking permit is valid for all UDM student parking lots, including student lots on the McNichols Campus.
