    City Year National Service Scholars Program

    Detroit Mercy Law is proud to partner with City Year Corps, a national organization committed to serving Detroit area schools, in establishing the City Year National Service Scholarship Program.

    Detroit Mercy Law offers the following benefits to City Year AmeriCorps members, alumni and staff who are accepted:  25% tuition scholarships (or its equivalent) for all admitted City Year corps, alumni and staff. Scholarships are renewable beyond the first year based on stated retention criteria.  Learn more about this partnership.

    Eligibility and Additional Information

    • 25% Tuition Scholarship.  The award will be in the amount of 25% of tuition (or its equivalent), for all admitted City Year corps, alumni or staff members per year. Scholarships are renewable in subsequent years of the program up to the completion of their J.D. subject to the renewal criteria for all scholarships.
    • Scholarships awarded to City Year AmeriCorps members and alumni who complete at least one term of service and City Year staff members employed for at least two years.
    •  Detroit Mercy Law will permit admitted students to defer enrollment by one year if they decide to stay with City Year for additional time before starting their studies.
    • Scholarships described above represent the minimum awards; applicants will be considered for additional merit-based aid based on the academic strength and other qualities of the applicant.

    To identify your City Year affiliation

    • Please state your City Year affiliation in your law school application and resume.
    • Request City Year service verification: Please email the City Year Alumni & Career Services Department at with "Detroit Mercy Law: City Year verification letter request” in the subject line and include the site where you served and dates of service in the email. This letter will be sent directly to the Admissions Office and added to your applicant file.

    Vendor Tuition Discount

    Vendor Tuition Discount

    Current full and part time employees, their spouses, and dependent children of Primary Vendor Companies of University of Detroit Mercy are eligible for a 25% discount on tuition.  Law students are eligible to combine this discount with other eligible scholarships, however, the total amount of scholarship awarded shall not exceed full tuition.

    Students remain eligible as long as they are in good standing and the employee remains employed at the vendor company.  A new application must be submitted each term by the following deadlines:

    • Fall - October 1
    • Winter - February 1
    • Law Intersession - May 15
    • Law Summer Session - June 20
