University of Detroit Mercy School of Law awarded Nara Gonczigsuren the 2020 Voice for Justice Fellowship. Detroit Mercy Law strives to teach students to be both skilled practitioners and compassionate professionals. This Fellowship upholds the long-standing tradition at Detroit Mercy Law of service to the community and provides students the opportunity to succeed while making a difference in the community.

“My experiences prior to law school established the foundation for my commitment to public service and drove me to pursue the law so that I can be an agent for structural change,” Gonczigsuren commented. “As a community organizer, I had the opportunity to work on issues that are prevalent in Detroit which increased my ability and desire to be an effective legal advocate and a voice for justice.”

Fellowship recipients work as interns during the summer for non-profit organizations. Gonczigsuren will be serving at the Detroit Office of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)

My first two assignments include COVID-related immigration and incarceration cases,” Gonczigsuren said. “I am honored to be able to work with an incredible team of passionate attorneys serving those who lack access to justice during this pandemic.”
