Detroit Mercy Law Students Complete Externships in the City of Detroit Civil Rights, Inclusion, and Opportunity Department
Over the summer, Detroit Mercy Law students completed externships in the City of Detroit Civil Rights, Inclusion, and Opportunity Department.
“I wanted to gain hands-on experience in law school that I will be able to apply to a future career working in public interest law. I learned a lot about the local laws of Detroit. Specifically, how the city offers increased protections for individuals that may not be recognized as protected class by state or federal anti-discrimination laws.” Liam Marin '22
“Having practical experience before graduating and passing the bar was an invaluable experience. While externing at CRIO, I not only further improved both my legal researching and writing skills, but I also had the opportunity to compose interrogatories and conducted complainant, respondent, and witness interviews. Moreover, I established relationships with professionals in the legal field and worked under the supervision of well-established civil rights investigators.” Nina Warda '23
