Career Opportunities Spotlight: Detroit Mercy Law students hopes to explore practice areas in summer associate position
Chanel Taylor '23 will begin working as a summer associate at Varnum LLP in May 2022, a position she landed through On Campus Interviews. “I’m looking forward to working on in a variety of practice areas. I want to learn more about family law, employment law, and litigation,” Taylor explained.
Taylor in part decided to accept a position at Varnum because of their Free Agent Program, which gives summer associates time to decide which practice area best suits them. “Once I decide on a practice area, I hope to make great strides in that arena. I hope to make a positive impact in the lives of marginalized groups and women,” she commented. “Varum has programs that support minority small business owners and other diversity initiatives. I hope to participate in those kinds of endeavors to make a significant change.”
“When I interviewed with Varnum, I paid attention to what the staff said about the firm. Their responses made me feel comfortable that it was the type of environment I could thrive in,” Taylor said.
At Detroit Mercy Law, Taylor is a junior member on the Moot Court Board of Advocates, a member of the Black Law Students Association, and participates in the mentorship program as a mentor for first-year students.
