Celebrating Pride: Nicholas Carroll ’24
Nicholas Carroll ’24 is proud to wear his identity as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community on his sleeve. He is the most recent past-President of OUTLaws, a student organization at Detroit Mercy Law dedicated to advancing the inclusion of LGBTQIA+ perspectives within the law school, and works with allies, with the school, and beyond to end discrimination in all forms.
“The legal profession is a white, cis-male dominated field and that is a very hard place to breakthrough, establish yourself, and to feel comfortable,” he explained. “I am extremely proud of myself because just by me showing up to law school, being myself proudly, and not tolerating hate, that is representation.”
In addition to serving on the OUTLaw Board, Carroll was the Executive Vice President for the Student Bar Association, Vice President for the Immigration Law Association, a member of the Hispanic and Latino/a Law Student Association, and Junior Member of the Law Review. He worked as an immigration law clerk and intern at the International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit, Ellis Porter, and Hilf and Hilf.
Carroll will be sitting for the July 2024 Bar Exam.
