Detroit Mercy Law Graduates Achieve 93 Percent Employment Rate
University of Detroit Mercy School of Law’s 2024 graduates achieved a 93 percent employment rate in legal and professional positions. Graduates secured employment in a variety of settings, including positions with law firms, courts, and government, business, and public interest organizations across the United States and Canada.
Nicholas Schroeck, Dean of the School of Law, remarked:
“We are proud of our graduates' achievements and remain dedicated to our mission of educating the complete lawyer and equipping students with the skills and experiences necessary for success in the legal profession. The employment market remains strong, and our graduates have achieved notable outcomes this year, a testament to their hard work and the value of a Detroit Mercy Law education.”
Gene LaPouttre, Director of Career Services for Graduate Employment, added:
“Detroit Mercy Law’s graduate employment outcomes have been consistently strong—often meeting or exceeding national benchmarks—and this year is no exception. We integrate career development and professionalism into every stage of the law school journey, starting from the first year, to ensure our students are prepared to enter the legal market with confidence. These outcomes reflect our deep commitment to helping students launch meaningful and successful legal careers.”
Each year, Detroit Mercy Law supports graduates with securing employment and is required to report the employment outcomes of graduates as of ten months following graduation to the American Bar Association. The 93 percent employment rate includes mostly bar passage required positions. It also includes J.D. advantage positions, professional positions, and start date deferred positions.
Detroit Mercy Law graduates surpassed the national average for securing full-time, long-term legal employment. Per the ABA employment summaries, 89 percent of 2024 Detroit Mercy Law graduates secured full-time, long-term legal employment, compared to 87 percent of 2024 law graduates nationwide.
The Detroit Mercy Law employment outcomes include graduates of the Canadian & American Dual JD Program. For the 2024 Dual JD graduates, 99 percent secured articling or other legal employment. The Dual JD program is the only program of its kind in North America in which students earn two law degrees in three years. Graduates earn a JD from both Detroit Mercy Law and Windsor Law and graduate eligible to be licensed in both the United States and Canada.
